KS3 – Year 7

What you will learn to know, do and understand:

  • Understand French when it is spoken to you.
  • Speak French using sentences with mostly-correct pronunciation.

Learn ‘ten words per week’ for a weekly test.

KS3 – Year 8

Students are expected to consolidate the skills begun in Year 7 and to begin to use grammatical and phonic rules independently. Particular emphasis is placed on the ability to use more than one tense. The habit of learning ‘ten words per week’ will continue as students build up a stock of ‘active’ vocabulary.

  • Listen carefully and understand French when it is spoken to you.
  • Speak French using sentences with mostly-correct pronunciation.
  • Understand familiar vocabulary and memorise unfamiliar vocabulary for ‘ten words per week’ tests.

Write with correct spelling, building sentences over time with more than one tense.

 

KS3 – Year 9

Students are expected to consolidate the skills begun in Year 8 and to begin to demonstrate a level of grammatical knowledge that they can use in terms of correct phonics and correct use of adjectives and verb tenses. You should be able to:

  • Learn your ‘ten words per week’ accurately on ‘vocabexpress.com’
  • Understand French when it is spoken to you, using your previous knowledge of vocabulary and phonics to ‘de-code’ unfamiliar words.
  • Speak French using sentences with mostly-correct pronunciation and apply phonic rules to unfamiliar language.
  • Understand familiar words and memorise unfamiliar words, creating an ever-increasing stock of active vocabulary. Translate from and into French. Describe photos and take part in role-plays.

Write with correct spelling, building sentences over time with past, present and future tense.
