History & RE

KS3 – Year 7

In Year 7 students complete 6 units of work, 3 for History and 3 for RE.

History topics are:

  • Medieval England
  • The English Reformation
  • Early Elizabethan England

Re topics are:

  • Big Questions
  • Buddhism
  • 7 dimensions of religion

 

 By the end of Year 7 in History we expect students to be able to:

  • Describe events / features of the periods studied
  • Analyse a historical source
  • Produce a piece of extended writing

 

By the end of Year 7 in RE we expect students to be able to:

  • Describe different features of a religion
  • Describe some types of beliefs and practices

Describe their own and other peoples points of view

 

 

KS3 – Year 8

In year 8 students complete 6 units of work. 3 for History and 3 for RE.

History topics are:

  • The Industrial Revolution
  • British Empire and the Slave Trade
  • World War One

Re topics are:

  • Big questions
  • The 5 pillars of Islam
  • An introduction to Hinduism

 

By the end of Year 8 in History we expect students to be able to:

  • Describe events / features of a time period in detail
  • Explain the causes of an event
  • Analyse a historical source in detail
  • Structure an essay

By the end of Year 8 in RE we expect students to be able to:

  • Describe and explain different features of a religion
  • Describe and explain different types of beliefs and practices
  • Describe and explain their own and other peoples points of view

 

KS3 – Year 9

In year 9 students complete 6 units of work. 3 for History and 3 for RE.

 History topics are:

  • Hitler and the Holocaust
  • The Second World War
  • The American West for GCSE

RE topics are:

  • Hinduism Beliefs for GCSE
  • Hinduism practices for GCSE
  • Religion, peace and conflict for GCSE

 

By the end of Year 9 in History we expect students to be able to:

  • Describe key features of the period.
  • Analyse and evaluate source utility.
  • Explain consequence and significance of historical events.
  • Agree and disagree with a statement by writing a structured essay, including a conclusion
  • Write narrative accounts.

 

By the end of Year 9 in RE we expect students to be able to:

  • Explain in detail different features of a religion
  • Explain in detail different types of beliefs and practices
  • Explain in detail their own and other peoplesโ€™ points of view
