Coronavirus Update18 March 2020
Please see Mr Walker’s latest update below:
We hope you are all coping well during these testing times. Once again, we are pleased to report that the school is fully functioning, and all year groups are receiving lessons. Our attendance figures are still strong; we would, of course, ask you to follow Public Health England’s medical advice (please click here to access) before making any decisions regarding your child’s attendance.
As aforementioned, the school is open at the moment; however, in the event of a school closure, we ask that you follow instructions via our website and social media channels, in order to minimise any potential problems.
Following today’s meeting, we would like to inform you of the following:
Year 11 exams
All exams are currently scheduled for May and June, and we are preparing for these as normal. Our Year 11 lessons are operating as normal, and staff are ensuring that students have all of the necessary resources. In response to the current situation, our Year 11 students are demonstrating fantastic behaviour, and leading the school in an exemplary manner. We are very proud of them.
Year 10 Work Experience
Students who have had their work experience placements postponed or cancelled should attend school as normal, unless they are following medical advice (please click here to access) to self-isolate. We are operating a timetable where students are receiving lessons; rumours of days ‘only in the library’ are untrue.
The travel company operating the football trip to Spain has informed us that the trip has now been cancelled. We are now working through the arrangements for this year’s remaining trips to Belgium, the Isles of Scilly, Seville, and Roscoff, as well as Leading Edge activities. We will, as always, keep you updated on any further developments.
Books for students
We have asked staff to provide pupils with their books where appropriate. If you would like your child to collect all of their books, please provide them with a note with permission to do so, which can be shown to staff. Please note that, in the event of a school closure, we envisage the majority of work being set via the Virtual School and Showbie, so students can receive feedback.
Work for students out of school
As noted in yesterday’s update, due to the high number of students absent from school, providing pupils with individual work is not feasible. However, if all students and staff are required to work from home, this will change. Please note that homework can be accessed via the Virtual School. Students are aware of the online tools they have access to via their iPads to support different subjects – we aim to provide a summary of these tomorrow.
Thank you for your support at this time. If you have any questions, or would like to raise any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
