South West Schools Cross Country Championships at Blaise Castle, Bristol
Eight Penryn College pupils represented Cornwall and the school at the South West Schools Cross Country Championships in Bristol on Saturday.
A number of fantastic performances were complimented by the manner in which the students conducted themselves and supported one another throughout the day.
Indeed, one of the event’s highlights saw the Junior Boy’s team, including Sam, Josh and Zephrin, finish third overall.
Teams of eight will be selected for the Junior (Years 8 and 9) and Intermediate (Years 10 and 11) teams to compete at the England Schools Championships in Nottingham on Saturday 18 March. Selection will be based on students’ performances during last month’s County round at Newquay, along with Saturday’s South West round.
Well done, everyone!
Football
U13 and U15 Academy Football v West Cornwall Schools District Teams (Home)
Saturday saw our U13 and U15 Academy Football teams test themselves against some of the finest school footballers in the south west, as they faced two West Cornwall Schools District sides.
There was a fantastic atmosphere on the school pitches, as parents/carers and staff enjoyed two action-packed, competitive games, along with some pasties!
Well done, everyone, and thank you to all who came along!

Thursday saw our Year 9 Boy’s Football team and our Year 7/U14 Girl’s side host Richard Lander School.
Our Year 9 team took part in a high-scoring first-round County Cup match, which saw them exit the competition.
Despite the loss, Penryn played some impressive football throughout the encounter, with Richard Lander securing the victory with some clinical finishing.
Meanwhile, our Year 7/U14 Girl’s team took part in a closely contested, end-to-end encounter, which saw them suffer a narrow loss.

Hockey
U13 Girl’s County Hockey Tournament at Penair/Truro School
Two of our U13 Girl’s Hockey sides took part in an 18-team County Hockey Tournament earlier this week.
Both sides played some fantastic hockey, with our Red team (playing in red kit) winning their group to qualify for the semi-finals – where they defeated Richard Lander School – before a narrow loss to Truro School in the final.
Meanwhile, our Black team (playing in black kit) produced some fine performances, and were unlucky not to progress from their group.
A spot in the Regionals is the reward for our Red team reaching the final! This event will take place at Clifton College in Bristol later this year.
Well done, girls!
U16 Girl’s Hockey v Richard Lander School (Home)
Thursday saw our U16 Girl’s Hockey team face Richard Lander School, with Penryn producing a fine second-half performance after a slow start.
Miss Lane selected Mia W and Gracie T as her Players of the Match.
Well done, girls!
Rugby
U16 Girl’s Rugby Festival at Helston Community College
As part of our plan to develop rugby across the school, our U16 Girl’s team took part in a competitive, entertaining rugby festival earlier this week.
The girls competed in several fixtures, getting some valuable match experience in preparation for future fixtures.
Well done, girls!
Next week will see our U14 Girl’s Rugby team in action!
Thank You
A big thank you to all schools for visiting and hosting us this week!
