Sports round up – Staff special
03 April 2017Football – Boys
It’s been a good fortnight for boys football with the year 7 performance squad winning 5 – 0 against Truro High. Staff noted their great team performance and excellent passing within their new formation. Goal scorers were Jack Symons, Ollie Pickup and Ross Dunstan who scored a hat trick. The year 7 development team also won against Truro 2 – 1 as did year 8 perfs 5 – 4 and year 8 devs 6 – 3.
Meanwhile year 9s beat Hayle 2 -1 in the West Cornwall Cup semi-finals and are now the West Cornwall Champions. They will take on the East Cornwall Champions as they compete for the county cup. Year 10s won 4 -1 against Richard Lander in their county cup semi-final.
Netball
The County success of our year 7s was shortly followed by tournament wins from our U15 team at the South West State Schools Tournament, and year 8s at their County Schools Netball Tournament. More details on their stories here.
Two Penryn College teams entered the home-hosted year 8 netball festival last week. They have shown a fantastic weekly commitment to netball practise.

Penryn College came 4th in the recent county 7s tournament.
Sporting Staff
Competition has also been in the air for some of our staff members! In the last week of term the PE department held their annual Easter Standing Long Jump Competition. Coming in 1st in the Men’s category was Mr Reade with a distance of 2m 30. Mrs Walker won the women’s competition jumping 2 meters exactly.
The Vets event saw a draw for the top spot with Mr Holmes and Mr Bick both jumping 2m 20. Mr Excell was an unfortunate no show, while Mr Davies couldn’t compete due to injury.
Injury which may be linked to our final sports story of this staff-special sports round-up…
