Staff Take STEAM Project to Local Primary Schools
27 June 2021As part of the development of the STEAM faculty, members of staff at Penryn College are taking a project on the road to local primary schools.
The project’s first test was with the lovely Year 6 students at Perran-Ar-Worthal Primary School, where pupils designed, built and tested their own cereal box gravity racers, themed much like the Red Bull Soapbox Race. They came up with some amazing and creative ideas, and all of the groups got their designs across the finish line!
It wasn’t just a race, though, there was some sound science in the project: students developed knowledge of the scientific method, experimenting accurately and drawing conclusions from the results. All pupils were left with a better understanding of gravity, friction and some key manufacturing and design principles!
A big thanks to Perran-Ar-Worthal for having us, and a big well done to all students for their amazing efforts!
