Become a Part of Our STEAM Department’s Latest Project!
01 March 2022Do you work in a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Maths) industry? Would you like to provide an insight into careers for our students?
The members of our STEAM department are always looking to link their projects to STEAM industries, and give students exposure to real careers that use the same skills developed in lessons.
If you do work in a STEAM industry, it would be fantastic to include you in the latest project (Gravity Racer Project) so we can show pupils what tasks you carry out day-to-day, and how our STEAM skills apply in your business/place of work and projects.
We would benefit from a short video which shows where you work and what you do, including some details about how our core skills are valued and applied. Somewhere around three minutes in length would be perfect!
If you have any questions, or would like more details, please contact our Head of STEAM, Mr Childs, via achilds@penryn-college.cornwall.sch.uk.
More Info on the Gravity Racer Project
In STEAM, our staff combine the teaching of Design Technology and Computing through a project-based curriculum. As part of this, our Year 8 students are taking part in a Gravity Racer Project. The race is based on the Red Bull Soapbox, with students designing and building shoe box-sized radio control cars.
The aim is for pupils to develop broad skills in STEAM projects, and at its core this project is going to be assessed against accuracy, creativity, and using failure to learn and grow.
