Weather Update

01 November 2023

A message from our Headteacher, Mrs Schouten, to parents/carers regarding the weather forecast over the next 24 hours:

Dear Parent/Carer(s)

In light of the weather forecast over the next 24 hours, we have conducted a risk assessment to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

We expect the worst of the weather around 6.00pm today (1 November) and again around 6.00am tomorrow morning (2 November), with some torrential rain and high winds overnight.

The school will remain open as normal tomorrow, but if you feel you cannot get your child into school safely, please do not attempt to travel, but report any absence via phone (01326 372379, selecting the Attendance option) or e-mail (attendance@penryn-college.cornwall.sch.uk).

Please be advised that, currently, buses are running as normal. OTS will post updates on their Facebook page if there are any changes; we will also communicate these updates to parents/carers via e-mail, our website, and our social media channels.

We have been informed that GWR trains and rail replacement buses are not running from 8.00pm on Wednesday 1 November until midday on Thursday 2 November between Penzance and St Austell (including the St Ives and Falmouth branch lines).

We will be asking students to remain inside the building during lessons and breaks/lunchtimes, and to move around the school between lessons inside. We are also closing the TISA during breaks and lunchtimes.

If the situation changes, we will e-mail all parents/carers as soon as a decision has been made, and also post this on our website and social media channels.

Please try and get your child into school if you can do so safely.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please e-mail secretary@penryn-college.cornwall.sch.uk and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Kind regards

Tamsin Schouten
Headteacher
