Weekly Highlights: 11 – 15 March
19 March 2019Sports and activities took centre stage here at Penryn College last week, along with some vital preparation and announcements ahead of a very busy period of the school year.
News of Penryn College students Edward Mitchell, Louis Ratcliffe, Jocelyn Eccleston and Abbie Downing’s fantastic performances in the Inter-Counties Cross Country Competition in Loughborough on Saturday 9 March kicked the week off in fine fashion.
Edward (76th position) and Louis (297th position) competed in the U17 Male 6000m, Abbie (236th position) competed in the U15 Female 4000m, and Jocelyn (252nd position) competed in the U13 Female 3000m.
Meanwhile, four pupils headed into the week with a swing – taking part in the Cornwall Schools Golf Scratch Championships at Truro Golf Club on Monday. Well done to Maisie Drewett, Harry Drewett, Will Sercombe and Olly Dobell, who played fantastically well in testing conditions.
On Tuesday afternoon – following on from the GCSE Launch assembly hosted by Miss Laing earlier this month – over 70 Year 11 Geography students attended an after-school session which focused on applying pupils’ knowledge to exam questions on natural hazards. Students also attended a host of other after-school revision sessions, and details of the revision sessions available for each GCSE subject can be found on the Clubs and Activities page within the VLE.
Wednesday afternoon saw the school announce the official date of this year’s Spring Concert (Tuesday 2 April). Tickets go on sale on Tuesday 26 March, and will be available for purchase from the school’s Finance Office.
Additionally, an announcement was made regarding dates and booking information for the Year 11 Subject Review. It will take place on Tuesday 26 March (3.45pm-5.45pm). Online booking opened at 5.00pm on Tuesday 12 March and closes at 3.00pm on Monday 25 March. It is recommended that parents\guardians do not book back-to-back appointments.
