Year 9 Footballers Enjoy Internal Fixture

01 October 2020

Thursday saw the first Year 9 internal football fixture of the term, as one side of the school timetable took on the other in what was an exciting encounter.

The left side of the timetable came into the game as favourites, with a squad that featured a number of players who had a very strong season last year, but it was members of the opposition squad – known more for their strong rugby playing attributes – who were celebrating first, as they took a slender lead into the half-time break.

Dylan and Brandon were noted as the standout players in the opening half for the right side, following relentless pressure on their opponents to force mistakes.

As expected, the left side went on the attack right from the start of the second period, making for a fantastic, competitive second half of football. James was having an ever-growing influence for the left side, but could not break down the opposition’s relentless defence, with Alfred and Lucas demonstrating fantastic determination in the back line, helping secure a fantastic victory for their squad.

Following the game, Head of Year 9 football, Mr Tucker, said: “It was fantastic to see the boys back playing a competitive match. It was also great to see James and Lucas compete in their first game after a lengthy spell out – they will be real assets to the squad.”

And Study Support Coordinator, Mr Ash, also commented following the encounter. He said: “We are keeping a close eye on the Year 9 and Year 10 sports teams as we begin to plan for the future Year 11 Performance Sport programmes. It’s important the boys show commitment and dedication if they want the same opportunities that our current Year 11 pupils are enjoying, with additional matches and training.”
