In a national picture of falling grades, Penryn College’s grades continue to improve. The Class of 2025 students reunited and celebrated their fantastic academic achievements on Thursday morning, as they returned to the school for a memorable GCSE Results Day. Their hard work, determination and resilience led to excellent results and there was a sense of pride and joy among students, their families and staff in attendance. 78% of the total grades awarded were grade 4 or above, against the national figure of 67.4%. 91% of students gained at least one grade 4 and 98% left with at least five counting qualifications. An impressive 26% of the grades earned were grade 7 or above, in line with Penryn College’s previous outstanding figures and above the national average of 23%. A particular area of celebration for the school is the outstanding grades achieved in English, 82% of students gained a grade 4-9 against a regional score of 68%. Over a third of students achieved the top grades of 7-9.
Based on their year 7 starting point, Penryn College students achieved on average almost half a grade higher than expected. Moreover, almost a third of the school’s pupils across all ability ranges achieved at least one grade higher than expected across all of their subjects, maintaining the school’s excellent track record.
Additionally, Year 10 students who sat their GCSE RE Fast Track exams a year early passed with at least a grade 4, with 82% of pupils achieving a grade 9-7 and 8 students earning a grade 9.
Penryn College continues to offer a broad and exciting range of subjects, and success was seen in Further Maths, Additional Maths, Arabic, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and Russian. What is more, the school’s performance history continues in technical awards with 27% of the cohort achieving the equivalent of grades 7-9. Two Penryn students, Alisha and Kianna, have received recognition from the exam board as highest achieving students in the country in OCR Sports Science.
Special mention goes to the pupils who earned 10 or more top grades, including many grade 9s. 38 students achieved the highest grade possible in one or more of their subjects. 120 pupils earned one or more grade 7 or above.
Exceptional results and progress were also achieved by the following students: Casper, Kaia, Joshua, Mabel, Bryony, Phoebe, James, Dory, Alex, Rosie, Grace, Lola, Daisy, Sasha, Megan and Poppy.
Reflecting on the Class of 2025’s fantastic achievements, Penryn College Headteacher, Mrs Croxall, said: “Everyone connected to Penryn College is delighted with so many aspects of our results, which are a testament to the tremendous amount of hard work this year group have put in over many years. Our school motto is ‘achieving through challenge’ and our year 11 students have embodied this in their approach to life at Penryn College, not only achieving academic success but taking advantage of all the other opportunities afforded to them along the way. They have all the skills now to start the next stage of their journey. We could not be prouder of their success, and we wish them all the very best for their futures. Well done to them all and to the staff and families who have worked tirelessly to inspire this success.
