Sports round-up – Penryn College are County Champions!

27 January 2017

Hockey

Our under 16s had a fantastic match, winning 5 – 1 against Mullion. Congratulations to the team: G Honey, M Barlow, C Brumpton, M MacLeod, S Clemens, V Kok, B Osman, L Hart, A Walker, M Dunn, M Devery, P Norris and G Davis.

Cross Country Champion

Year 7 student Zak Clemens ran for the Cornwall Athletic Club’s U11s team in North Devon earlier this month, during which he secured his fourth victory in a row! This guaranteed him the gold position in the overall league. Well done Zak!

Football

Our football teams enjoyed their first competitive outing of the season with an away trip to Falmouth. The Year 7s won 2-0 with goals from Sean Fry and Will Trinder. The Y8s won 3-0 with a Joe Walker hat trick, while the Y9s put in an excellent performance to win 5-1. The Y10s scored the only goal of the game to take victory in the final game of the day.

Under 16s are Un-defeated!

The Y11s continued their incredible season with another win – their tenth without defeat this season. They overcame a very good Helston side with the only goal of the game coming early in the second half from Kian Thomas. With defence holding firm for the remainder of the match, they secured their place in the U16 County Schools Final when they faced Poltair School…

… AND WON. Scoring 3-1, our super-squad of year 11s are County Champions!

Congratulations to them!

We would also like to wish Poltair player Josh a speedy recovery from the injury he received mid-match.

Even more fantastic football

The school is also very proud of 3 pupils who have recently been invited to trial with Plymouth Argyle’s Academy. We wish Jasper Turner, Olly Pickup (Year 7) and Kayden Gordon-Dunn (Year 8) every success.
