British Cycling Young Volunteers of the Year

21 March 2016

Two pupils Alex Piper and Tom Bell (Year 10) have been awarded British Cycling Go-Ride Young Volunteers of the Year 2015 for the Southwest Region. What a fantastic achievement!

The boys attended a Go-Ride Conference in Taunton on Saturday 19th March, where they were awarded Young Volunteers of the year. Alex and Tom also achieved their Gold Award for volunteering and Alex achieved his Platinum Award, the highest award on offer for volunteering. They give hours of their time tending the track that they ride in Maenporth, marshalling and putting on events.

The Pennant caught up with Alex to chat to him about his volunteer work: “I would definitely encourage other students to volunteer. I help plan events and design the posters, I am currently planning the Falmouth Urban Downhill which is happening on the 17th April at Penryn Campus. I also attend committee meetings and give a young view of what people want to do. It all helps towards my CV. I’m looking forward to what I can achieve soon, when I turn 16, I can start my British Cycling Level 1 Coaching.”

Congratulations to both Alex and Tom on their achievements, keep up the good work!
