Community Defibrillator Installed Following Local Club’s Fundraising

29 January 2024

A community defibrillator has been installed nearby Penryn College’s sports pitches thanks to the fantastic fundraising efforts of community football club Falmouth United.

United, whose teams train and play their matches on the school’s all-weather pitch, paid £1,300 towards the lifesaving piece of equipment after raising the funds during a Christmas raffle event, with Penryn College contributing the remaining £300.

Indeed, the defibrillator is situated on the exterior wall of the school’s changing rooms, next to the all-weather pitch and grass pitches: one of the hubs of its sports facilities, which many students and community clubs use throughout the year.

And Penryn College’s Sports Development Officer, Darren Bowers, expressed his gratitude to those at Falmouth United: “We are so grateful to everyone connected with Falmouth United for their efforts in raising this money for such an important piece of equipment.

“Defibrillators have saved countless lives across the country and beyond during sports events and, whilst we hope we never have to use it, it’s very reassuring that we now have one installed in this area of the school.”

And Falmouth United Chairman, Chris Wood, reflected on the importance of the installation of the defibrillator.

“With the amount of people using the sports facilities at the school, and the surrounding clubs, we thought it was important to be as prepared as possible.

“It’s a great piece of equipment that we hope we never have to use,” he added.

We would like to thank everyone connected to Falmouth United for their efforts in raising money for the defibrillator, which is a very welcome addition to the others which we currently have on-site.
