Coronavirus Update
17 March 2020Please see Mr Walker’s latest update below:
As this situation is very fluid and fast-moving, I would like to update you with our plans on a daily basis.
We have been running classes as normal today, and the students have been exceptional in the manner in which they have approached this difficult situation; our members of staff have also been fantastic. Thank you, as always, for your support and consideration.
Of course, we would like to remind you that you must follow the current medical advice provided by Public Health England regarding self-isolation (please click here to access this advice). Please let our Attendance team know if your child is required to self-isolate.
Work for students not in school
I hope you understand that, due to a high number of students being absent from school, we are not able to set individual work. Students will find homework via the Virtual School; they may have additional work they can complete via Showbie. Obviously, if all students and staff are required to work from home, this will change.
Year 10 Work Experience
Year 10 Work Experience is up and running, and the majority of students are in placements. However, as you may expect, some employers have asked students to return to school. If this is the case, pupils should attend school as normal, unless they are following the aforementioned medical advice. We have a full learning programme in place, and we are trying to make the experience as positive as possible. If your child’s work experience placement is postponed or cancelled, please contact the school immediately. If your child is poorly or in self-isolation, you will need to inform the school as normal.
Study Support
Unfortunately, from Wednesday 18 March (tomorrow), we will not be running our extra-curricular clubs; this includes instrumental lessons. This is a decision that has not been taken lightly, but following advice we feel this is the correct course of action for our pupils and staff.
All clubs will run as normal today. Students who wish to take part in sports clubs are asked to meet in the Sports Hall, where they will be split across a selection of activities available.
We are, however, pleased that this week’s revision sessions will go ahead as planned for Year 11 students. Pupils will be able to view this information via the Virtual School as of this evening.
Holiday Programme
Due to the current situation, we do not intend to run our Edventure Holiday Activities programme this Easter.
Year 11 Subject Review Evening
In order to protect the health and safety of all members of our community, we have made the decision to carry out all of this evening’s Year 11 Subject Review Evening appointments via phone or e-mail. Therefore, if Year 11 parents/carers have any appointments scheduled, we ask that you do not come into school, but wait for the relevant member of staff to contact you via phone or e-mail between 3.30pm and 5.30pm.
If you have any specific queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Spring Concert
In order to protect the health and safety of all members of our community, we have made the decision to postpone this month’s Spring Concert, which was due to take place on Tuesday 24 March.
Anyone who has already purchased tickets will be issued with a full refund.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
