County Titles for Year 7 Sports Teams

12 April 2022

Last month saw Penryn College’s Year 7 students earn not one but two county titles within the space of a week, following fantastic performances in one-day rugby and hockey tournaments.

The U12 Boy’s Hockey team completed an unbeaten run in the In2Hockey County Tournament, before the U12 Boy’s Rugby squad added the Arthur Parkes County Rugby 7’s title to the trophy cabinet, also remaining unbeaten throughout the competition.

Pool School hosted the prestigious Arthur Parkes Tournament, which saw Penryn register group stage victories over Richard Lander School, Humphry Davy School, Camborne Academy, and Cape Cornwall School, before knockout stage wins over Penrice Academy (quarter-final), Redruth School (semi-final), and group stage opponents, Richard Lander (final).

And it was a similar story in the In2Hockey County Tournament – which took place at Truro School – with Penryn implementing some high-intensity, fast-paced play throughout the competition to defeat each of their opponents on the day.

Speaking following the In2Hockey Tournament victory, Penryn College PE Teacher, Mr Shepherd, said: “Each player was incredibly supportive and encouraging towards each other, which created a positive team atmosphere. Well done, boys!”

And, reflecting on the Arthur Parkes Rugby 7’s success, Head of PE at Penryn College, Mr Tucker, said: “This was a superb squad performance, not only from the boys on the day, but also all of those who trained on Friday nights in preparation.”
