DofE Update from Mr Penhaligon

03 May 2024

Check out the latest update from our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Leader, Mr Penhaligon!

DofE Bronze Expedition

Last weekend, we took a group of our Year 9 students out for their DofE Bronze Expedition. They demonstrated some excellent teamwork, walking 16 miles over two days and camping overnight.

Whilst the weather wasn’t kind to us, we’re so proud of how well prepared our students were to contend with the cold, rain and hail. It’s fair to say that there were some sore feet and aching limbs in school on Monday, but we are super proud of the determination shown.

The expedition assessor commended our students on their teamwork and camp craft skills.

History and Congratulations

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award has a long history here at Penryn College and it continues to grow each year. Last weekend, we were so proud of everyone who took part, including the 66 students who passed the Expedition section of their award.

A polite reminder that pupils need to complete the Skills, Physical and Volunteering section to achieve the Bronze Award. A huge congratulations to Olivia, Amy, Martha and Calixto, who have now achieved their Bronze Award. We will present the certificates and badges to you soon.

Thank You

It would not be possible to run this Award without the support of the staff at Penryn College. I would like to thank them for giving up their free time over the weekend to help our wonderful students complete their expedition.

Silver Award

We are very much looking forward to taking our Silver Award Year 10 students out for their expedition and training.

Dates for the diary: We will be training on Friday 7 & Saturday 8 June. The Assessed Expedition will take place on Friday 28, Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June. A letter with further details will be sent home with students soon.
