Five-Time European Champion Skater Pays Inspiring Visit to College
24 June 2021As part of the Youth Sport Trust’s aim to ensure that young people enjoy the life-changing benefits that come from sport, five-time European Championship-winning inline skater and Youth Sport Trust ambassador, Rich Parker, paid an inspiring visit to Penryn College on Wednesday.
During the day, the X-Games silver medalist ran two fun-filled practical skating sessions on the school’s netball court – much to the delight of students – after speaking to our young people about the importance of hard work and dedication, and how it led him to the top of his sport.
Indeed, the 34-year-old’s story is one which highlights the life-changing opportunities which sport can provide, as well as the attributes which can be learned from participation: during his teenage years, with no local skating facilities nearby his home, Rich had two jobs to cover the costs of travelling 500 miles every week; by the age of 17, his professional career was underway and, since then, he has competed as a professional inline skater all over the globe, with huge success.
Reflecting on Rich’s visit, Penryn College PE Teacher, Mr Holmes, said: “Our students were truly inspired by Rich’s stories of dedication and resilience – and both students and staff were very grateful for his visit.
“Pupils also got to try out lots of exciting and challenging skating drills, and watch Rich’s mesmerising skills close up!
“A big thank you to Rich and the Youth Sport Trust for an unforgettable day!”
