GCSE Geographers Explore Italy!
06 June 202543 of our GCSE Geographers enjoyed an incredible trip to the Bay of Naples, Italy, over the Easter holidays!
Check out Mrs Westhead’s (Head of Humanities) report on the trip below!
Mrs Westhead’s Report
Students had the pleasure of visiting the old centre of Naples and discovering the underground tunnels there, as well as trips to explore Pompeii and Herculaneum, both of which are beautifully preserved ancient towns that were buried in the 79 AD eruption of Mount Vesuvius.
We took the hydrofoil ferry from Sorrento, where we stayed for three nights, over to the island of Capri for a day trip. It was such a stunning tour, with a boat trip all the way around the island to see the coastal landforms such as stacks and caves. We even boarded smaller row boats to experience the magic of the blue grotto. Our last day was spent summiting Mount Vesuvius and learning more about the tectonic activity in the area from some local expert guides.
The five staff who took the students on the trip all agreed that this group of young people were the most pleasant travelling companions we could possibly hope for and they made us really proud with their excellent manners, behaviour and sense of adventure! They all really enjoyed the cultural experiences walking around and souvenir shopping in Sorrento and Naples, eating the delicious Italian food in different restaurants each day and sampling the delicious chocolates and gelato on offer. Molto bene!
This annual trip is already in the planning for next year, so if any GCSE Geographers currently in Year 10 (or Year 9 who have opted for GCSE Geography next year) are interested, please let Miss Greenaway or Mrs Westhead know so we can ensure you’re the first to get a letter about it when we’re ready to announce the details later this term!
