History-Making Footballers Reach Last 16 of National Cup

18 January 2025

Our Year 7 Girls’ Football team wrote themselves into the history books this week, becoming the second-ever Penryn College girls’ side to reach the last 16 of the National Cup.

The squad produced a magnificent comeback victory over Eggbuckland Community College – whose teams have reached two National Cup finals in recent years – bouncing back from 2-0 down to claim a memorable 3-2 win.

Indeed, after conceding twice early on, Penryn refused to give in and netted a vital goal shortly before half-time thanks to the relentless energy of Isla.

And that goal inspired a wonderful second-half display, demonstrating the squad’s talent and team spirit, with Isla netting twice to complete her hat-trick and secure her side a place in the last 16 of the competition.

Following victories against Truro High, Pool, Camborne and Eggbuckland, the girls can now look forward to a trip to Kennet School in Newbury, West Berkshire, in the next round!
