Info for Sports Day 2023

28 May 2023

We are delighted to announce that this year’s Sports Day will take place on Tuesday 27 June!

Students will have the opportunity to take part in a HUGE range of events – from traditional track & field sports and team games (cricket, rugby, hockey, football, etc.) to alternative activities such as Cornish wrestling, tug of war, shinty, retro games, and much more!

Event Selection

Throughout the week beginning 5 June, during PE/Life Skills lessons, students will be able to select the events they would like to take part in.

Looking back at previous Sports Days, the winning teams have usually been the ones that successfully manage to fill every event with individuals doing their best for their team and House.

Themes

This year’s theme is ‘Power of Play’ – in support of the Youth Sport Trust National School Sports Week, which is aimed at encouraging young people to participate in 60 minutes of physical activity per day.

And Sports Day will have a competitive edge, alongside the mental health benefits of being able to take part in sport and have fun with friends.

Additionally, with the FIFA Women’s World Cup kicking off less than one month after our Sports Day, this year’s theme will incorporate the power of strong female role models.

Indeed, at the 2023 Youth Sport Trust Conference, Lioness hero, Jill Scott, told Miss Lane: “So many girls are great role models – we must give them the confidence to stand up and shout about what they are good at.”

House Teams

Students will be taking part in physical activities throughout the day, making their way to the different venues around the school in year groups, competing as House teams. As always, the House with the most points earned on the day will be crowned Sports Day champions.

This will be the final major event of the year to earn those all-important House points, which will contribute to the overall total for the year!

Officiating Roles

We are opening up a number of officiating roles to students for Sports Day. Please can pupils who would like to be considered for a role of this kind contact Mr Tucker as soon as possible.

Safety and Reserve Date

It’s vital that pupils are equipped with refillable water bottles, hats, and plenty of sun cream in order to keep safe throughout the day.

In the event of bad weather, Sports Day will be rescheduled for Wednesday 12 July.
