“It Puts a Smile on Our Faces”: Trelowan Preschool’s Reading Visits

02 April 2025

Mrs Male’s Year 9R English group have been working with some special visitors from Trelowan Preschool this term.

The children have been making the short journey to Penryn College to listen to stories, read brilliantly by our pupils.

Check out what those involved have had to say about the reading sessions below.

Mrs Male’s Thoughts

“It has been so rewarding to see the supportive relationships develop between our Year 9 students and the children,” said Mrs Male.

“Our students read with excellent expression and get the Trelowan students really involved with the books, whether it’s opening flaps, feeling the texture or pressing a vehicle sound effect.

“We really look forward to seeing our visitors and hearing their laughter or their questions about the books we’re reading.”

Year 9 pupil, Princess, reflected on what a positive experience it’s been for her, her fellow students, and the children.

“The more we have read to the children, the more we have noticed how much they have enjoyed the interactive and noise books,” said Princess.

“They have also been enjoying the space and superhero books. The more they come to the library, the more it seems they have become more comfortable, and so have we.

“We enjoy reading the funny books with them as it makes them laugh and smile, which is always a good thing, and it also puts a smile on our faces. Another thing they really like about our library is the fish tank, and they have always enjoyed seeing the fish at the end of the lesson.”

Feedback from Trelowan

“It has been a pleasure to bring the children over to the library,” said Trelowan Preschool Manager, Carol Allen.

“They have thoroughly enjoyed choosing and reading the books with your students. When we return to Trelowan, the children talk about the students and their favourite books.

“The feedback from home has been great too; one of our children was discussing the visit and said ‘it was amazing, Granny!’.”
