Pupils Explore Benefits of Language Learning with Government Employees

15 June 2024

This week saw employees from several government departments provide nearly 80 of our Year 8 pupils with an insight into how language learning has helped them in their careers.

Via a livestream, speakers from the UK Foreign Office, Home Office and the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) described what their day-to-day work involves and provided specific examples of how having knowledge of a language benefits them.

Indeed, Alan, Head of Small Boats Operational Command, explained how his knowledge of the French language has helped him negotiate with French counterparts when purchasing helicopters, drones and other equipment needed by Border Force.

Big thanks to the speakers for offering their time and inspiring our pupils!
