Pupils Take Part in Mock Court Trial
22 April 2025Back in February, a number of our Year 7, 8 and 10 students had the opportunity to participate in a mock court trial based on an historic and local real-life case!
Check out our Careers team’s report on what was a fantastic, insightful day!
Careers Team’s Report
We were exceptionally grateful the have the help of Barrister, James Jarvis, who joined us for the day to make the experience even more real. This experience gave us the chance to explore how the justice system works and what happens during a real court case.
Our students took on all the different courtroom roles. We had lawyers, witnesses, a judge, a jury, and a court clerk. The witnesses had to stick to their statements and answer questions under pressure. The judge had to manage the courtroom fairly, and the jury had to carefully consider all the evidence before making a decision.
Working on a case based on real events made it feel more serious and meaningful. We realised how important it is to use facts and evidence to support an argument, and how every word in court can influence the outcome. It also showed students how complicated the legal process can be, and how important it is for everyone to follow the rules and respect the roles of others in the courtroom.
This mock trial helped the students build a range of skills – from public speaking and critical thinking, to teamwork and active listening. It also helped them understand the importance of fairness and justice in the real world.
We would like to thank Mr Jarvis for giving up his time and we hope to be able to offer this experience to more students soon.
