Special Careers Visit to the Vets

06 November 2024

11 of our students with an interest in working in the veterinary care profession recently enjoyed an insightful visit to Beacon VetCare in Summercourt.

Our pupils were treated to an in-depth tour of its fantastic facilities, learning how all of the medical machinery functions, before meeting the in-patients and learning a little about why they were in. These patients included two very cute kittens in for spaying!

Students then heard about blood transfusions in dogs and two previous cases which included open heart surgery and a smashed pelvis; thankfully, both dogs made a full recovery.

Concluding their visit, our pupils were given different scenarios to make decisions on whether animals would need to be brought into see the vet or not. That was before they found out what each role in a veterinary practice involved and how they could start a career in that role.

A massive thank you to Katie Eastham of Beacon VetCare for educating our students and taking the time to answer all of their numerous questions!
