U13 County Rugby Festival at Penrice Academy

Tuesday 11 October saw our Year 8 Rugby team crowned U13 County Cup champions following their first-place finish out of 25 competing schools!

As a result of a huge squad effort, Penryn topped their opening group with four wins from four, earning qualification into a second pool stage consisting of schools that had achieved a similar feat in their respective opening groups.

The players continued that fine form into the latter stages of the competition, defeating each of their opponents to complete the tournament with a 100% winning record from eight games!

Reflecting on the players’ achievements, Head of PE, Mr Tucker, said: “The success was built on the players keeping calm under pressure and a big squad effort.”

A big well done to the squad and thank you to Penrice Academy for hosting the tournament.

U12 Boy’s, U15 and U16 Girl’s Football – National Cup 2nd Round

Four of our football teams were in second-round National Cup action last week!

The U12 Boy’s team progressed to the third round following a fantastic victory over Pool Academy.

Goals from Olly, Henry, Eli, Harry, Ed and Lucas, combined with a great squad effort and a Player of the Match performance from Tom, helped secure the victory.

The U15 Girl’s team also progressed to the third round of the competition following their brilliant win against Redruth School.

Tilly picked up the Player of the Match award in this encounter.

Unfortunately, our U16 Girl’s team and U13 Boy’s team were eliminated from the competition by strong Camborne Academy and Helston School sides, respectively.

The Penryn v Helston fixture produced one of the matches of the round, with the boys losing 4-3 to the County champions following a winning goal in the final minutes of the tie.

Reflecting on the team’s efforts, Mr Ash commented: “The lads put in a brilliant performance. Huge credit to the whole team who all performed outstandingly well, but special mention to Ed C, who led the team inspirationally in an unfamiliar position.”

Maddie and Ed picked up the Player of the Match awards.

Year 7 Football Festival v Camborne Academy

Concluding the school week in fantastic fashion, we hosted a festival of football on Friday, where 40 of our Year 7 students took part in a set of matches against Camborne Academy.

Our C team were beaten in the final moments of the game, with Jack scoring a brace to win the Player of the Match award.

Meanwhile, our B team’s victory featured a goalkeeping masterclass from Busby, who demonstrated a sequence of cat-like reflexes to keep Camborne at bay!

And finally, our A team emerged as winners of a 4-3 thriller thanks to Olly’s thunderbolt of a free-kick as full-time approached. Ed earned the Player of the Match award after opening the scoring and providing width on the right-hand side of the field.

Thank you to the teachers and pupils at Camborne for a fantastic end to the week, as well as all the parents/carers who came to show their support.

A big well done to all players, especially those who represented the school for the first time.
