U16 Mixed County Hockey Tournament at Truro School

Friday’s Staff Training Day saw our U16 Mixed Hockey team become county champions following an undefeated tournament performance.

Under the autumn sunshine, the team worked hard throughout the day, producing some fantastic hockey to lift the U16 Mixed County Tournament trophy for the first time in Penryn College history.

Well done, team!

Cricket

U15 Girls’ Indoor Cricket County Qualifiers

Our U15 Girls’ Cricket team secured a spot in next year’s County Indoor Tournament following a fantastic performance in last week’s County Qualifiers at Cornwall Cricket Centre, Truro.

The girls demonstrated great teamwork to register victories in each of their matches against Helston, Richard Lander and Penair.

Miss Elliott named Polly, Seren and Elena as the Players of the Match.

Well done everyone!

Rugby

U14 County Cup Rugby v Penair School (H)

Thursday saw our U14 Rugby team progress to the fourth round of the County Cup following an impressive victory against Penair School.

In what was an entertaining tie, which included some impressive play from both teams, Mr Tucker picked out Eli and Morgan as the Players of the Match, noting Morgan’s try on the stroke of half-time as the game’s key moment.

The squad can now look forward to a trip to North Cornwall for their fourth-round clash against Launceston College in two weeks’ time.

Year 7, 8 and 10 Rugby v Richard Lander School (A)

Last week saw our Year 7, 8 and 10 Rugby teams visit Richard Lander School to play their rescheduled fixtures following the impact of Storm Ciarán.

Year 7

Year 7 enjoyed a tightly contested, physical game, with Mr Bowers praising Noah and Logan for their great tackling, and Mr Bidgood picking out Beck as one of the key players thanks to his superb ball carrying.

Year 8

Our Year 8 team came out on top in what was a thrilling encounter between two attacking teams. Momentum switched between both sides throughout, but Penryn remained resilient in defence, with the line speed preventing Lander from getting over the gain line and forcing handling errors.

Jago and Tom, who Mr Nancarrow highlighted as his Players of the Match, got Penryn off to a flying start, scoring two tries on the break after big defensive efforts from the whole team in the Penryn 22.

Year 10

The Year 10 team was picked from a squad of over 30 players who have been extremely committed to training since returning to school in September.

Our Year 10s are working hard to manage their academic progress while building momentum as a squad in their preparations for their County Cup semi-final clash against Newquay Tretherras. Mr O’Regan picked out Kayn as one of the Players of the Match for his explosiveness and power, and Finley for making his debut!

Thank you to Richard Lander for hosting these fixtures on a rearranged date to give so many of our students the opportunity to play.

Football

Year 7 National Cup Football v Marine Academy Plymouth (H)

Our Year 7 Football team narrowly missed out on a place in the fifth round of the National Cup following Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat to Marine Academy Plymouth.

From back to front, both sides produced some excellent football in a highly entertaining match, with Penryn producing one of their finest team performances to date.

A last-minute winner saw the impressive Marine Academy end the tie as victors, but Penryn have so much to be proud of following a display full of togetherness, determination and skill.

Well done, boys, and congratulations to Marine Academy on their progression to the next round.
