Check out this week’s sporting highlights in our Sports Summary!
Cornwall School Games
Friday saw Penryn College host the Winter Secondary School Games, with over 300 pupils from across the county competing in 3×3 basketball, netball, and Functional Fitness.
All schools had qualified for the event through area competitions, including Penryn, with pupils competing in both the U13 and U15 basketball.
Both teams had a great tournament, facing seven other sides in a round-robin competition. Both finished in a very respectful third place, securing the coveted bronze School Games medals.
A big well done to all pupils who took part!
Basketball
Our U14 Boys’ team travelled to Bristol this week to take part in the National Cup 1st Round Tournament.
Penryn enjoyed a strong start with a victory against Treviglas Academy, before a very narrow loss to Bristol MET and a fantastic finale which saw them defeat a well drilled Millfield School side!
Congratulations, lads! We look forward to the next round early next year!
Rugby
Our U13 Boys’ team enjoyed an incredible day of rugby at the Mount Kelly Tournament on Wednesday, taking on top-tier opposition from the outset in the shape of Mount Kelly, Queen’s College Taunton, Stover, and Exeter School!
Each match provided a great test of skill and determination for the boys, and the final showdown was one for the books, as Penryn took on the ‘Pirate Dogs’ – a team with some familiar faces from their own squad!
Indeed, the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship was on display, as both sides gave it their all.
Speaking following the tournament, our PE team said: “Huge thanks to Mount Kelly for hosting and making this an unforgettable experience for our students, who were blown away by the facilities.”
Football
Both our U15 and U12 Girls’ teams were in National Cup action on Thursday evening, hosting Richard Lander School and Camborne School, respectively.
Our U15 side faced a strong Richard Lander squad in a hard-fought encounter which saw the girls demonstrate fantastic commitment and discipline. However, it was the visitors who claimed the victory, following a great second half display.
Following the match, our PE team commented: “The girls showed great resilience and should be proud of their performance.”
Our U12 side battled against the torrential rain and strong winds to claim a victory in a closely contested encounter against Camborne.
The girls maintained their composure and stuck to their principles of play throughout the match.
Well done everyone!
