Sports Summary – 4-17 November
16 November 2024We’ve seen a huge range of sports fixtures, tournaments and events take place since the half term break, and some fantastic performances and results to boot!
Check out some of the highlights below…
Cross Country
Five of our Cross Country teams represented the school in the South West Cross Country Cup last weekend, after qualifying in style during last month’s Cornwall/Devon round.
Each athlete gave their all and performed fantastically well, with two Penryn College teams reaching the National Finals: the Junior Boys’ team and the Inter Boys’ team, after finishing in the top three in their respective categories to secure qualification.
Representing their teams and the school with pride, the results were as follows:
– Junior Girls: 4th out of 11 schools, narrowly missing out on Nationals.
– Junior Boys: Runners-up, qualifying for Nationals.
– Inter Girls: 10th out of 12 schools, with strong performances against top runners.
– Inter Boys: Runners-up, qualifying for Nationals.
– Senior Boys: 9th place, competing against Year 12 and 13 athletes.
Netball
There’s been lots of exciting fixtures for our netballers in recent weeks, with Penryn hosting and competing in the U14 County Tournament, and all year groups producing brilliant performances against Truro High School for Girls and Truro School in group sets of games.
The U14 competition, which took place at Penryn College, saw our squad win all eight of their group games, including a victory against Penair, before defeating Newquay Tretherras in the semi-final.
Once again, Penryn faced Penair – this time in the final – who demonstrated some excellent play to win the title.
Finishing runners-up means that the girls have now qualified for next year’s Regional Finals, joining our U16 team who were crowned County champions last month.
Huge congratulations everyone!
Hockey
Both our U16 and U13 Girls’ Hockey teams have been in County Tournament action over the past two weeks.
Our U16 side narrowly missed out on the County title by goal difference, after a number of brilliant performances saw them win three of their four matches and secure a draw in the other.
It means the squad have now sealed a spot in the Regional Finals, which will take place in Bristol later this month.
Our U13A and U13B teams both competed in the previous week’s County Tournament, working incredibly hard throughout the day and securing second and third place, respectively.
A huge well done to everyone involved!
Football
It’s been a busy couple of weeks for our footballers!
Two standout games have seen both our U15 and U13 Girls’ teams reach the 4th round of the National Cup, meaning they are among the final 64 sides in the country that remain in the competition.
Well done everyone!
