U16 Boys’ County Hockey Tournament at Penryn College
Our U16 Boys’ Hockey team were crowned county champions on Thursday afternoon, winning each of their games to claim the title in fantastic fashion.
The boys faced high-quality teams from across the county, showcasing some brilliant hockey throughout the competition.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Mr Shepherd said: “Each player stuck to their principles of play and worked incredibly hard throughout the tournament, setting high standards for each other on and off the ball.”
Well done, boys!
U14 Girls’ Regional Hockey Tournament at Clifton College
Our U14 Girls’ Hockey team put in a series of fantastic performances in last week’s U14 Regional Tournament in Bristol.
The girls qualified for the competition after finishing as runners-up in last month’s County Tournament, and showcased their qualities on the regional stage this week.
Unfortunately, the squad missed out on qualification into the next round of the competition by just one goal.

Cross Country Running
Cross Country Cup – South West Round at Taunton Racecourse
Our Cross Country teams represented the school with pride in this month’s South West Cross Country Cup.
Our Junior Girls’ team, Junior Boys’ team, and Intermediate Boys’ team were all in action on the day, and you can view the results below.
Junior Girls’ Team
Our Junior Girls’ team kicked the day off with an 8th-place finish. Matilda (Year 8) finished in 11th position with one of the performances of the day!
Junior Boys’ Team
Our Junior Boys’ team finished in 6th place, with last year’s National finalist, Matty, in 14th – closely followed by Ethan (Year 7), who placed 16th. Ed B was also inside the top 20, with Toby (Year 7) slightly behind.
Intermediate Boys’ Team
Our Intermediate Boys’ team concluded the day with Josh finishing in the top 10 and Sam finishing amongst the top 20, to help the team achieve 5th place overall.
Attention now turns to the Cornwall Schools Cross Country Championships, which will take place at Truro School on Saturday 13 January. Details will be e-mailed out soon.
Students – would you like to get involved? Cross Country/Endurance training continues on Wednesdays after school.
Netball
U14 County Netball Tournament at Penryn College
Our U14 Netball team finished as runners-up in last weekend’s County Tournament at Penryn College.
The girls performed fantastically well throughout the competition, winning five games to reach the final, before suffering a narrow 13-12 defeat to Richard Lander School.
Well done, girls, and congratulations to Richard Lander!

Year 7 National Cup Football v Redruth School (H)
Earlier this month, our Year 7 Football team progressed to the fourth round of the National Cup following a thrilling 3-2 victory against Redruth School.
Trailing 2-1 heading into the final minutes of the match, Penryn registered two late goals to spark wild celebrations on the pitch.

U16 Girls’ National Cup Football v Camborne
Our U16 Girls’ Football team suffered a narrow penalty shootout defeat in this month’s third-round National Cup fixture against Camborne.
The game featured some fantastic, high-quality football from both sides, and concluded with Tilly W’s late equaliser, before Camborne progressed to the next round with a 5-4 victory on penalties.

Rugby
Our Year 7, 8, 9 and 10 teams were in action last week!
Our Year 9 Cup squad progressed to the fourth round of the National Cup following a 31-12 away victory over Ivybridge, and our Year 10 team also enjoyed tournament success, with a County Cup win against Truro School!
In addition to these fantastic results, our Year 7 and 8 teams hosted Falmouth School on Thursday evening, playing their part in three brilliant matches. That was after Year 7’s County Festival at Richard Lander School, and the Year 9 B team’s entertaining friendly at Truro School.
A fantastic effort from all students involved! Well done, boys!
Terry Pryor & Benji Thomas Rugby Festival at Penryn College
Thursday 9 November saw Penryn College host the second-ever Terry Pryor & Benji Thomas Rugby Festival – an annual competition played in memory of two inspiring figures in education and sport at Penryn College and Redruth School.
A late change in venue and the subsequent fixture changes did not take away anything from the event, which was played with a fantastic spirit and competitive nature, with the following matches taking place on the evening:
– Year 7 Penryn College Barbarians v Penryn College Chiefs
– Year 8 Penryn College v Redruth School
– Year 9 Penryn College Barbarians v Penryn College Chiefs
– Year 11 Penryn College v Redruth 1st XV – County Cup QF + TP & BT Festival Fixture
Each of the matches produced high-quality, entertaining, exciting rugby, with the Year 11 fixture doubling up as a County Cup quarter-final and festival fixture. Congratulations to Redruth who progressed to the semi-finals.
A huge well done to all students involved in the event, including Year 10 student, Jack M, who demonstrated his fantastic composure and knowledge of the game as a referee.
