Students Complete Silver and Bronze DofE Expeditions
02 July 2024Check out Mr Penhaligon’s update on our students’ brilliant efforts in their Silver and Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions!
Silver Award
A big congratulations to the 26 students who successfully completed their Silver expedition last weekend. Over three days, our fantastic pupils walked from Loe Beach to Hayle, covering a total of 33 miles.
If this wasn’t gruelling enough, two students received certificates for running the ‘Gwennap Pit Mile’. This involved starting from the bottom and running around the pit to the top, and then back down again!
Each group had to select a team goal – ranging from making a vlog of their expedition and demonstrating teamwork, to exploring Cornwall’s mining heritage. Their expedition assessor commented on how well each of the five groups worked together, noting their excellent navigation and camping skills.
Bronze Award
We are also really proud of our seven Year 9 students who completed their Bronze assessed expedition over the same weekend. This particular group showed great progress throughout and were greeted by their parents at the finish line with doughnuts to celebrate a birthday!
Reminder and Congratulations
A polite reminder to students that they need to complete their Skills, Physical and Volunteering section to achieve their awards. Please can all kit borrowed from the school be returned to Mr Penhaligon before we break up for the summer.
Huge congratulations to Lola D, Polly D, Josh E, Claudia O and Rosie W who have now achieved their Silver Award. We will get the certificates and badges to your shortly.
Thank You
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award has a long history here at Penryn College and it continues to grow each year.
It would not be possible to run the award without the support of the staff at Penryn College. I would like to thank them for giving up their free time over the long weekend to help our wonderful students complete their expedition.
