U12 Football Team Crowned County Champions

01 May 2025

Our U12 Girls’ Football team were crowned County Cup champions on Wednesday afternoon, concluding their history-making season with a magnificent 3-2 victory over Treviglas Academy at a sun-drenched Bodieve Park.

Ahead of the encounter, the girls were dealt a huge blow with the news that regular goalkeeper, Quilla, had broken her leg and would be unable to play. However, they were hugely inspired by her support from the sidelines, along with a great performance from debutant stopper, Martha.

That set the tone for a fantastic first-half display from Penryn, which saw the girls take a 2-0 lead inside 25 minutes following Isla’s goals – one of which was a stunning volley.

Treviglas came out with renewed vigour in the second half, and Penryn needed Connie, Poppie, and Layla to be at their best to maintain their lead.

But it was Penryn who grabbed the all-important third goal of the encounter, with Isla completing her hat-trick with a low strike into the bottom corner of the net to make it 3-0.

The tie was far from finished, though. Heading into the final 10 minutes of the encounter, a stunning free-kick and a fantastic long-range strike pulled Treviglas back to within touching distance of their opponents.

But the girls’ incredible determination helped them navigate a nervy final five minutes to secure the County Cup title, sparking jubilant celebrations among the players and parents as the final whistle sounded.

Members of the PE team were full of praise for the girls, commenting: “A massive well done to the girls, who have created history at every step this season – becoming the first-ever Penryn female team to win the U12 County Cup.”
