U15 Rugby Team Victorious in County Cup Final

23 January 2025

A wonderful seven days for Penryn College Rugby was capped off with a fantastic County Cup final victory for our U15 side against Redruth School on Wednesday.

The win secured a second County Cup trophy in seven days for the school’s rugby teams, following our 1st XV’s draw with Newquay Tretherras in last week’s thrilling U16 final.

Indeed, the U15s drew inspiration from the previous week’s achievements from the off, demonstrating fine defensive work and turning the ball over on two occasions to allow Zephrin and Olly to run the length of the pitch and cross the try line in style.

Redruth replied with a trademark catch and drive, but Penryn scored a crucial try moments before half-time, breaking from the halfway line and running the ball in under the posts.

With Redruth playing downhill in the second half, the boys had a tough task in defending their lead, but stepped up to the challenge fantastically well, with substitutes Connor and Morgan making an immediate impact in the front row and on the wing, respectively.

With the wind in their sails, Dan, Sam, Brodie and Zephrin began to pin Redruth back into their own half, leading to regular scoring opportunities. Morgan scored a superb try and Eddie completed a hat-trick following some great work from his teammates, including Ben, to close out the match and secure a 43-12 victory.

Following the encounter, both Mr Tucker and Mr Bonds praised both sets of players for their performances and the pride they showed in representing their schools.

They also thanked Hayle Rugby Club for hosting the final, Ian Morgan for officiating, and staff members and parents/carers for their support.
