U15 and Year 7 Netball Teams Crowned County Schools Champions

23 April 2019

Penryn College’s U15 and Year 7 netball teams are County Schools Netball champions.

The U15 squad became County Schools Netball champions for the third time following their fantastic run of results during the competition, which was staged at Truro School.

Penryn remained unbeaten throughout the 22-team tournament – defeating Mounts Bay School, The Roseland Academy, Wadebridge School, and Humphry Davy School in the group stages, before registering victories against Truro School, Penair School, Truro High School, Penrice Academy, and Richard Lander School in the competition’s final rounds.

Taking inspiration from the U15s’ success, the Year 7 team also remained undefeated on their route to County Schools success at Bude School – firstly registering victories against Brannel School, The Roseland Academy, Falmouth School, and Redruth School in the opening round, ensuring progression to the latter stages of the tournament.

They then went on to win very competitive encounters against Truro High School for Girls (6-2), Richard Lander School (5-3), St Ives School (5-0), and Humphry Davy School (7-3).

The fantastic set of results set up a nail-biting final against Penair School, which ended in a memorable 7-5 victory for Penryn.

Reflecting on the success of both teams, Penryn College PE Teacher and Netball Coach, Mrs Walker, said: “Both sets of girls showed great togetherness and versatility; they should all be proud of their achievements.”
