U16 Netball Team Crowned County Schools Tournament Champions

17 October 2019

Penryn College’s U16 Netball squad made it three tournament wins in as many weeks for the school’s sports teams on Saturday 12 October, as they were crowned U16 County Schools Tournament champions at Penryn College.

Remaining undefeated throughout the competition, the squad of 12 players registered group stage wins against Mounts Bay Academy, Richard Lander School, St Ives School, Truro School, and Redruth School, securing a place in the tournament’s semi-finals.

A 15-6 semi-final victory over Penair School meant Penryn – for the second time in the competition – faced Richard Lander, with the hosts looking for a second win of the day against their opponents, but this time in the tournament final.

Indeed, Penryn rounded off a day of fantastic performances with a 16-6 victory over Richard Lander, clinching the County Schools Tournament trophy and booking their place in January’s Regional Schools Tournament, which will be staged in Bournemouth.

Reflecting on the tournament victory, Penryn College Netball Coach, Mrs Walker, said: “The girls showed great sportsmanship throughout the competition and produced a very impressive tournament performance.”
