Year 10 Rugby Team Crowned Arthur Parkes Tournament Champions

03 April 2019

Penryn College’s Year 10 Rugby players were crowned Arthur Parkes Tournament champions on Tuesday afternoon, following their sensational performances during the competition, which was held at Redruth School.

Penryn entered two teams into the tournament, with Penryn A drawn in Pool 1 and Penryn B drawn in Pool 2. Both sides competed fantastically well: Penryn A won the tournament, and Penryn B narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals, after suffering a marginal defeat in their final group game.

On their way to lifting the trophy, Penryn A won all of their pool games – defeating Richard Lander (34-0), Pool Academy (45-5), Treviglas Academy (36-5) and Penrice Academy (42-0), before defeating Newquay Tretherras 31-0 in the semi-final – setting up a mouth-watering final against old rivals, Redruth School.

Penryn and Redruth recently faced each other in the 15-a-side County Cup final – with the scores level at full-time, meaning, due to RFU regulations, both teams were crowned County Cup champions.

But this time around, however, Penryn produced some fantastic rugby to win 21-12 and become Arthur Parkes Tournament champions.

Meanwhile, Penryn B faced Newquay Tretherras, Penair School, Redruth School, and Truro School – and came excrutiatingly close to making the final four of the competition.

Both Mr Excell and Mr Lugg were highly impressed with all of the boys’ behaviour, attitude, and effort – concluding a fantastic year of rugby!
