Year 7 Footballers Write Themselves into History Books

05 February 2025

Our U12 Girls’ Football team have become the first-ever Penryn College side to reach the last eight of the National Cup following a magnificent 1-0 victory over Kennet School.

Having previously overcome Truro High, Camborne, Mounts Bay and Eggbuckland, the girls made the 486-mile round trip to Newbury this week to face Kennet, and are now just two wins away from the final, which will be held at The Hawthorns – home of Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion.

Indeed, this history-making Penryn College side worked relentlessly hard throughout their round 5 tie to reach the quarter-finals and, after a closely contested opening half, which ended 0-0, enjoyed the majority of possession in the second period of the game.

That was before top goalscorer, Isla, netted with five minutes of the contest remaining following Quilla’s fantastic through-ball.

Subsequently, the girls defended for their lives and managed the remainder of the contest in exceptional style to create history for themselves and the school.

The girls watched the live draw via YouTube with huge excitement as they travelled home, finding out that they will face either Surbiton High School or Lewes School at home for a place in the semi-finals.
