Pupil Premium and Free School Meals

Pupil Premium was introduced by the government in April 2011. It is additional funding allocated to schools to support Pupil Premium-eligible students.

Pupil Premium-eligible students are those who receive free school meals; those who have been in receipt of free school meals in the last six years; looked after children; service children; and adopted children. The aim of Pupil Premium is to close the historic attainment and progress gaps between the aforementioned groups of children and all others.

ClassCharts

Here at Penryn College we use ClassCharts to manage seating plans, record achievements and record incidents of bad behaviour at school.

ClassCharts uses data recorded to create optimised seating plans in seconds. We’re able to instantly track a specific student’s interactions with other pupils within the classroom and create seating plans based on the historical effect pupils have on each other’s behaviours, development and progress.

You can read more about ClassCharts here.

iPad and Biometric Information

Technology is continually evolving, and here at Penryn College we have invested significantly over the years, ensuring all students have access to the best technology available to support their learning and daily school life.

In order for your child to receive their iPad you’ll need to read our Mobile Device Acceptable Use Policy and complete this form.

We are excited to be able to share with you that we have we have taken the decision to offer thumbprint scanning to complement our cashless payment system in the canteen. This will support our planned moved to a single break time next year and ensure everyone is able to access the canteen quickly and efficiently. It is hoped we can offer several benefits;

  • Less time queuing for food in the canteen
  • Reduced cost of printing cards
  • Reduced risk of losing cards

ParentPay and the systems we use to administer payments will remain unchanged. We would like to reassure our parents and students that this is not mandatory and there will be an opportunity to opt out of the new system. If you or your young person wishes to opt out of using thumbprint recognition, we will continue to operate the existing card system.

In order to comply with the provisions of the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012, we need written permission from a parent / carer in order for students to use the biometric systems.

You can read our biometrics FAQ here and opt in to utilising biometrics here.

Mobile Phones

Here at Penryn College, we operate a gate-to-gate ban on mobile phones. You can read further information on this here.
