Track and Field Cup

Our students recorded some fantastic results in this week’s Track and Field Cup events!

The Track and Field Cup is a team competition that takes place throughout the country, where each athlete participates in one track event and one field event, scoring points for their performances.

Team Success

Indeed, all students represented the school fantastically well. Our Junior Boys’ team (Year 7/8) and Intermediate Boys’ team (Year 9/10) both placed first, retaining their titles as county champions.

And the Junior Girls’ team and Intermediate Girls’ team followed in the footsteps of the boys, both placing first and making history as the first female Penryn College teams to do so!

Individual Success

Over the two days, eight students broke Penryn College school athletics records for their year groups:

Robin – Year 7 High Jump (1.41m)
Tom – Year 8 High Jump (1.47m)
Josh – Year 9 1500m (4 mins 32 secs)
Theo – Year 9 Shot Put (11.89m)
Ed – Year 9 Triple Jump (9.91m)
Lex – Year 7 Long Jump (4.10m)
Keira – Year 8 Hurdles (14.2 secs)
Megan – Year 10 1500m (5 mins 26 secs)

All members of the Lifestyles department expressed how proud they are of the Athletics squads, who have worked relentlessly on their events to achieve the best team scores possible.

Rounders

Year 7, 8 and 9 Girls’ Rounders v Falmouth and Pool

This term has seen the return of rounders, with our Year 7, 8 and 9 teams in action against Falmouth School and Pool Academy over the past two weeks!

A short trip to Falmouth saw three great fixtures take place in the early May sunshine, with our Year 7 and 9 teams picking up victories, and the hosts earning a win in the Year 8 game.

And the previous week saw our Year 7 and 9 teams host Pool. Another two brilliant matches saw our Year 7 squad pick up a victory and the visitors register a win in the Year 9 game.

Cricket

Boys’ Hardball Cricket

The outdoor cricket season continued last week with our U12 Boys’ team facing Truro School in a friendly fixture, and our U13, U14 and U15 sides taking part in internal games.

All of the matches provided great experience for our players as they prepare for a busy season of cricket.
